How did Pink Shirt Day start?
It all started in 2007 in Canada. In most Canadian high schools, students do not wear uniforms. A new student arrived to start his first day at high school, and he was wearing a pink shirt. Some other kids began to bully him. They called him names, and pushed him around. Two senior boys were upset that a new student had been bullied at their school. So they bought lots of pink t-shirts and invited other students to wear them. Lots and lots of students wore pink to school – standing together to say NO to bullying. The new student felt safe and supported at his new school, and the bullies never caused problems at the school again.
